AMX 105AM
AMX 105AM
| France | SPG | Tier IV |

The AMX 105AM is a French tier 4 self-propelled gun.
Self-propelled gun on the basis of the AMX-B tank. The prototype was developed and tested beginning in 1949. Mass production was launched in 1955.
Stock, it features the Canon de 105 court mle 1934S, which players will be familiar from the Lorraine39 L AM, but features relatively worse engine power and worse acceleration until upgraded. With a faster traverse, more ammo, more hitpoints and twice the armor, it's definitely an upgrade from the Lorraine39 L AM and apart from its sluggishness, will feel familiar right from the start. The second cannon is slightly better in every way, albeit with the same aim time, and brings a small but not substantial increase in firepower. The AMX 105AM's somewhat bulky size may imply that it has worse stealth characteristics than its predecessor. After the engine is upgraded, the 60km/h speed limit common with most of the French SPGs means that it can reach fairly respectable speeds downhill and on flat ground.
The AMX 105AM leads to the AMX 13 F3 AM.

Performance
This SPG is an odd one, especially coming from a player used to german artillery. The arc that this tank fires in is very different from other SPG's. French artillery seem to lob shells higher that their german counter-parts so aiming past the target isn't necessarily a good tactic, as you will over-shoot your target.
In spite of the fully upgraded guns accuracy, expect to miss a fair number of shots, especially if you're used to a different nation's SPG's. Not only because this SPG seems to fire differently, but because it lacks splash damage. It is almost completely necessary to hit the target directly to do any signifcant amount of damage.
In spite of this, it is a relativly fun SPG to play, coupled with its fast reload and quick aim time, you can quite literally rain down destruction on your enemies.
It should also be noted that while the AMX 105AM is a tier IV SPG, expect to get into matches with tier VIII's, as is expected from SPG's of a similar tier. However, don't expect to reliably do any damage to those tanks at the top; the AMX 105AM has a lot of difficulty doing any significant damage to the Löwe or similar tanks. With this in mind, whenever possible, use this tanks speed to relocate and get better shots at the enemies' flanks. The speed of this SPG can be used to your advantage as well if you're quick enough to notice a flank collapsing. It is quick enough to out run most mediums, or at the very least, keep them out of range.
Early Research
- The ER 53 radio carries over from the Lorraine39 L AM, so install it immediately.
- The SOFAM 8Gxb engine can be installed without a suspension upgrade, so it's best to research it next to get rid of the sluggishness.
- Upgrade the suspension next.
- The range of the ER 53 radio is sufficient in most situations, so upgrade the gun next.
- Research the ER 55 radio last.
